1. Your Travel Identity

• Passport:

  • Original passport issued within the last 10 years.

  • Valid for at least 6 months beyond your last intended date of departure from Denmark.

  • Must contain at least 2 blank visa pages.

  • Note: No alterations or handwritten amendments are permitted in the data pages.

• Photograph:

  • Three recent colored passport-size photographs ($35\text{ mm} \times 45\text{ mm}$), no older than 3 months.

  • Finish: Must have a matte or semi-matte finish on high-quality paper.

  • Specifications: Facial image must be between $25\text{ mm}$ and $35\text{ mm}$ from chin to crown, against a plain white background.

  • Scanned or unclear photographs will be rejected immediately.

2. The Logistics of Your Trip

• Flight Ticket: Holding/Confirmed round-trip flight reservation (India to Denmark and return).

• Accommodation Proof:

  • Tourists: Confirmed Hotel Voucher or Cruise Confirmation.

  • Visiting Friends/Family: A formal invitation letter with the host’s ID/Passport copy.

  • Pro-Tip: For Denmark, the embassy strongly recommends using the official VU2 Invitation Form (for family/friends) or VU1 (for business).

• Day-wise Itinerary: A detailed travel plan on plain A4 paper. If booked via a travel agent, it must be on their official letterhead.

• Travel Insurance: Mandatory coverage of at least €30,000 ($50,000 USD). Must cover repatriation for medical reasons and emergency hospital treatment for the entire stay in the Schengen territory.

3. Financial & Professional Standing

Denmark requires clear proof of “Sufficient Means” to ensure you can support yourself:

• Proof of Funds:

  • Personal bank statements for the last 6 months, signed and attested by a bank official.

  • Recency: Statements must be dated within the last 7 days of your submission.

• ITR: Income Tax Return acknowledgment for the last 3 years.

• Occupational Proof:

  • Employed: Official Employment Letter (stamped/dated) stating your position, salary, and years of service, plus an approved Leave Sanction Letter and Employee ID copy.

  • Self-Employed: A copy of your GST Registration and a cover letter on your Business Letterhead.

  • Students/Minors: A simple NOC from your School/Institute along with a copy of your Student ID.

4. Cover Letter & Biometrics

• Cover Letter: A formal letter from the applicant on A4 paper (if employed) or Business Letterhead (if self-employed).

• Biometrics: * If this is your first Schengen application since November 2015, you must appear in person for fingerprints.

They don’t have a “one-size-fits-all” number, but as a rule of thumb, you should show enough to cover your stay comfortably. We usually recommend showing at least ₹80,000 to ₹1 Lakh in liquid funds per person for a two-week trip. If you have savings or investments, showing those helps prove you have strong ties to India.

Can I handle the application online? Mostly! You can start the process, fill out your forms, and book your VFS appointment right here on visalounge.in. However, you’ll still need to make a quick trip to the visa center in person to drop off your physical documents and give your fingerprints.

What if my hotel isn’t 100% confirmed yet? Don’t worry—you don’t need to pay for your entire stay upfront. A confirmed reservation (even one with a “pay later” or “free cancellation” option) is usually enough. If you’re staying with friends or family, a formal invitation (the VU2 form) from them works just as well.

My passport is expiring in a few months. Should I be worried? If your passport has less than 6 months of validity left, we suggest renewing it before you apply. The embassy requires it to be valid for at least 3 months after you plan to leave Europe. It’s always better to be safe than sorry!

What happens if my application gets rejected? If things don’t go as planned, you have two options:

1. Reapply: We’ll look at the refusal letter together, fix whatever was missing (maybe a clearer itinerary or a better cover letter), and try again.

• Single-Entry: This is like a one-way ticket into the Schengen zone. Once you leave the area (say, you fly to London or back to India), you can’t go back in on that same visa, even if it hasn’t expired.

• Multiple-Entry: This is for the frequent traveler. You can enter and exit the Schengen area as many times as you like within the visa’s validity, as long as your total stay doesn’t exceed 90 days in a 180-day window.

How much money do I need to show in my bank? Denmark likes to see that you’re well-prepared for the cost of living in Scandinavia.

• Staying in a Hotel? You should show about DKK 500 per day (approx. ₹6,500).

• Staying with Friends? The requirement is a bit lower, around DKK 350 per day (approx. ₹4,500). We recommend keeping a healthy balance in your account for at least 3-6 months. Sudden large deposits can sometimes look like a “red flag” to the embassy, so consistency is key!
